Citing and referencing is an important element of any academic work. Using material from other people, especially peer reviewed sources, illustates you have done your research and are able to back up your ideas and opinions with supportive material. People often get into a flap when it comes to citing and referencing though, as initially it can seem incredible cumbersome and discombobulated.
In addition to the expert support offered by the Librarians and Library and Academic Practice Coaches, the library can offer students access to the online resource Cite Them Right. This is a far more interactive version of the Cite them right : the essential referencing guide by Richard Pears and Graham Shields, which is available from the library in both physical and electronic formats.
This offers reliable guidance on how to reference, including how to use Harvard and APA styles and provides examples of how to reference just about any source you might ever wish to include in your work; including printed books, online journals, webpages, podcasts, artificial intelligence, and lectures.
You can use the search box to look for a type of resource, eg a journal article, and refine the result to limit it to the referencing style you want. Each entry includes details about the structure of the reference entry along with examples of in-text citations and reference entries.
Cite Them Right features a referencing tutorial which you can use to help develop your citing and referencing skills.
You can access Cite Them Right by clicking here.
To access Cite Them Right you must be either a Bradford College student or member of staff. If you are not either of these then unfortunately our licence will not allow us to grant you access to the resource.
The above link will take you to a login page where you will need to enter your college email address (username + @bradfordcollege.ac.uk). You will then be taken to the College's login page where you sign in with your college email address and password.
