Using the Library

A few basics to help new and existing Library users at Bradford College.
Borrowing items
You can borrow most of the items in the library collection for two weeks. Reading Zone items, or  items in the  DHB Entry Readers, DHB Independent Living or  DHB Teaching Collections can be borrowed for ten weeks.
  • You can borrow up to 15 items from our collection.  This can include textbooks, reading zone items, or DVDs.
  • If you want to borrow any items, you can do so by using one of our self-service kiosks. You will be asked you asked to enter a PIN which will be the year you were born (e.g. 2006)
  • A week after you have borrowed a two week loan item, as long as no one has requested it, the item will automatically renew for another two weeks (This will happen up to 25 times).
  • A ten week loan won't renew, and must be returned after the ten weeks.
  • If an item is marked Reference it can't be borrowed and must be used in the Library.
Bringing books back
If someone requests an item you have borrowed, or it has reached its renewal limit, it will not renew and you will need to bring it back by the due date.
Remember to keep an eye on your library record so that you know if an item has been renewed or requested.
We also email your College email address with details of any items issued, returned or requested, so keep checking this.
If you do not return the items by their due date you will be charged a fine for every day the item is late.
You will also not be able to borrow using the self-service kiosks anymore and will need to talk to a member of staff to borrow a book.
If you have fines totaling over £10.00 you will be prevented from further borrowing until your fines are bought below £10,00
If you have an item over three weeks late, you will be prevented from further borrowing until that item is returned.
