Using the Library: Welcome to the Library

A few basics to help new and existing Library users at Bradford College.

Welcome to the Library

Welcome to Bradford College Library
We hope you find this guide useful during your time at Bradford College.
Get in touch if you would like any more information about anything to do with using the Library or for details on how we can help you with your studies.

Please note: the library will be closed on Fridays like the rest of college.

Finding and borrowing books

Find books from your reading lists by using the Library Catalogue. You can also browse the catalogue by entering keywords that best describe your subject. You can sort your results by relevance, or list the most recent publications first.

Once you have found your book and noted down the title and shelfmark, you can do one of the following:

  • Come to the library counter with a list of books you require. We will collect the books for you. This is to limit the amount of people going to the shelves, to reduce transmission of the virus.
  • Request books via the Library Catalogue to pick up later. This is our new Request and Collect service and is like reserving a bookWe aim to have the books you have requested ready for you to collect within 2 hours during library opening hours.  You will receive an email, to your College email, informing you when your requested books are available for you to collect.

If you don't know the exact book you would like to borrow, just ask at the Information Desk

  • Let us know the subject you are looking for.  We will find a selection of books for you to browse before borrowing
  • Any books you don't want will be wiped before returning to the shelves

Please Note:  You will need to have your College ID Card to borrow books from the Library.

What else is available?

As a student at Bradford College you have access to a wide range of electronic resources to help you find information relating to your studies, from the full text of journals to online books and reports.  Most of our electronic resources are available off campus. You will need your college username and password to access them.
If you need help using any of our electronic resources then please Contact your Librarian.

How are we keeping you safe?

Please be assured that we have put in place a number of procedures to keep you and the rest of the college safe.

  • We aim to limit browsing to reduce transmission of the virus.  Our new "request and collect" service allows you to request books and collect them from the Library Information Desk within 2 hours. We also offer a book collection service where we will collect the books you need.
  • Our staff will sanitise their hands and wear visors or masks before, during and after handling books.
  • All recently returned books are quarantined for 72 hours. This is the period of time that the virus may live on surfaces such as paper and plastic.
  • Any journals that are handled will be quarantined for 72 hours.
  • All library staff and visitors will wear masks or visors at all times when in the public area.
  • Wipes and sanitiser spray are available throughout the library.
  • There are new ways of contacting us to allow us to continue to support you in person. You can contact your librarian on Teams, Phone, Email, or by Chat box, as well as in person. Please be aware that library staff are working from home on some of their working days.
