Law (HE): Comparative Law

What is comparative law?

Comparative law means the study of different legal systems, which can be foreign law such as the legal system of the United States, or other forms of law, for example Islamic or Jewish law. You may find yourself looking at other legal systems as part of your dissertation.

Westlaw International provides access to legislation, case law and journals from the following jurisdictions: United States, Australia, Canada, and Hong Kong. Documents can be found by country, citation, party name or subject, and keywords. Westlaw International is not an easy database to use – please refer to the guides listed on the Moodle pages or email me if you need any help.
 
From college: click on the link to Westlaw International. This will take you to the Westlaw UK home page. Click on Services in the top blue bar and select Westlaw International.
 
From home: choose the option “Click here for off campus access to Westlaw” and enter your college username and password. Click on Login. This will take you to the Westlaw UK home page. Click on Services in the top blue bar and select Westlaw International. 
 
Use Westlaw International for: Journals and case law relating to the Law of other countries (jurisdictions) - spefically United States, Australia, Canada, and Hong Kong. International journals include Harvard Law Review, and YaleLaw Review and key encyclopedia include the American Jurisprudence (US Law Guide).
