Think reading is just for lessons and assignments? Think again.
The Get Reading Challenge is back, and it’s all about discovering the joy of reading absolutely anything that grabs your interest.
Whether you're into fantasy, graphic novels, gaming magazines, or even cookbooks, we want to hear about it.

Why take part?
We get it, you're already reading loads for your course. But did you know that reading for fun (yes, even sci-fi or romance) can actually boost your literacy skills and help with your academic writing?
It’s also a great way to unwind and escape the stress of everyday life.
Here’s something to think about: according to The Reading Agency, nearly half of 16–24 year-olds in England don’t read in their free time. And around 1 in 6 adults in England and Northern Ireland struggle with literacy. That can make it harder to get involved in things like voting or volunteering.

So what’s the challenge?
This year, it’s super simple. No need to log six books or fill out forms. Just tell us what you’ve been reading — anything counts.

You can literally read anything you want!
📖 Novels, short stories, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, mystery
📰 Newspapers, magazines, blogs, travel guides
🧑‍🏫 Biographies, memoirs, self-help, history, science
📓 Journals, research papers, tech guides
📘 Graphic novels, encyclopedias, manuals, cookbooks
🛠️ DIY guides, sports mags, even picture books!

How to join in?
Just let us know: Who you are and what you’ve been reading
That’s it. No pressure, no rules, just reading for the fun of it.
