Christmas on Digital Theatre +

If you are looking for something festive to keep you entertained over the Christmas period, Digital Theatre+ is the place to go. You might even find something to help you escape the seasonal overload elsewhere!

Digital Theatre+ is an online collection of theatre resources. It includes hundreds of live plays performed by top casts including Broadway and West End productions that you can watch just by logging in with your College account.

So just a like a streaming service you can find some traditional holiday favourites and watch them on your phone, device or even cast them to a bigger screen. These should put you in a festive mood.

The Nutcracker: a performance by the world-renowned Royal Ballet of Tchaikovsky’s all-time favourite ballet from 2009. When one of her Christmas presents comes to life, Young Clara is swept into a fantasy adventure where she meets an exquisite Sugar Plum Fairy, a chivalrous Prince and the mysterious Drosselmeyer.

Holiday Inn: An adaptation of the film that gave us favourite holiday song White Christmas. This show was produced in New York’s Studio 54. Irving Berlin’s classic musical follows the journey of Jim, a performer who leaves the glitz and glamour of show business behind in pursuit of a quieter life in rural Connecticut.

Slava's Snowshow: Created by Slava Polunin, this internationally acclaimed show centres around a yellow clown and his cohorts set within a surrealist world. This unique theatrical experience combines traditional and modern clowning with elements of pantomime to celebrate snow and winter on stage.

There are also two versions of Dicken’s ever popular Christmas Carol, where miser Ebenezer Scrooge learns the true meaning of Christmas. You can see versions from Theatre Calgary or Bristol Old Vic.

If you are feeling Scrooge like yourself and want to avoid Christmas there are plenty of other things you can choose from including: multiple versions of every play by Shakespeare; a selection of musicals including Into the Woods, Kinky Boots or Funny Girl; and comedies such as Wind in the Willows or an Ideal Husband. If you really want to feel miserable you can find tragedies such as A Street Car named Desire, The Duchess of Malfi and Oedipus Rex.

We are sure that you will find something that you want to watch.
