Blind date with a book

Blind date with a book

All books are read,
Some may you feel blue,
But never stop trying,
To find the right one for you.

A blind date?
If you are not familiar with the idea of a blind date then let me explain.
A blind date is typically a matchmaking undertaken by friends or family of two people who previously may never have met.
Both the people involved will often have little to no information about each other and are hoping that through serendipity they meet someone and make a lasting impression.
This is the premise of TV shows such as "Blind Date", "Married at First Sight" and to a degree "Take me out" and "Naked Attraction".

How do you have a blind date with a book?
Everyone has a type of book they prefer and feel comfortable with, but this can limit your experimentation with reading something a little unfamiliar.
The idea behind “blind date with a book” is that the library will give you a little help in hopefully stumbling across a genre of book by accident.
So it could be seen as being just like a regular blind date, but one of the parties is a book!

Why would you want a blind date with a book?
You may have heard the expression "don't judge a book by it's cover", and often this is the first and lasting impression we have of a book.
By adding an air of mystery to selecting a book you may be introduced to a new author or genre you otherwise would never have encountered.
Each book is carefully wrapped in our special library wrapping and will be placed on display in the library.
The first details you will learn about your mystery read is when you discover it's title when you issue it on the self-service kiosks.

What if I don't like the book I get?
Just like the friends and family who organise blind dates, we want you to be happy with the match.
We are not going to force you to read a book, or give you with a quiz to test whether you completed it.
If after a few pages you find you are not enjoying the book you can slip through the proverbial toilet window and make your escape, although we hope this takes the form of you just returning the book to the library.

So what are you waiting for, grab your jacket.
Blind date with a book will be running up until Valentines day.
