Early years (HE): Practitioner materials

Evidence-based Practice

Evidence Based Practice is about using the best available evidence on the effectiveness of social or health interventions as a basis for professional decision-making, along with the practitioners' expertise and the clients' expectations and values.  There are a number of databases which provide access to up-to-date research in Early Years which you can use to ensure you are finding the best information possible.

The following databases can be used to find this information.

Practice Guides

Practice guidance provides a more detailed description what’s expected of childcare professionals in their everyday work.

Nursery World provides these useful management guides on topics such as Managing Equality and Diversity, and Safeguarding.

You can also find guides on all aspects of Early Years in the following databases.

Activities and Resources

Some of our magazines are aimed at people working in the industry, and are packed full of news, expert information and practical resources and ideas.

  • Early Years Educator (EYE) includes case studies, best practice, and a 16-page supplement full of practical activities containing creative and developmentally appropriate ideas to take straight into your setting.
  • Practical Pre-School contains inspirational activity ideas and easy-to-use practical resources, based on the prime and specific areas of learning and development. The magazine is designed to cater entirely for the requirements of the revised EYFS.
