Early Years and Childcare (FE): Autumn Term 2020

Welcome Back

We welcome all students back into the library. We are still open but there are some new rules to using the library, all of which are intended to keep you and the rest of college safe. If you have any questions or comments, please do get in touch.

Finding and borrowing books

We have put new procedures in place to limit the spread of the virus.

  • We aim to limit browsing, by asking you to come to the library counter with a list of books you require.
  • Find items on your mobile phone, tablet or PC
  • Give us the details of the books you require. We will collect the books for you

You can also request books via the Library Catalogue to pick up later.

  • This is our new Request and Collect service and is like reserving a book
  • We will collect the books you have requested and have them ready within 2 hours

If you don't know the exact book you would like to borrow, just ask at the Information Desk

  • Let us know the subject you are looking for
  • We will find a selection of books for you to browse before borrowing
  • Any books you don't want will be wiped before returning to the shelves

Accessing Online Resources

We encourage all students to use our online resources. This will contribute to us reducing transmission in the library.

  • We have spent the summer improving our e-book collection.
  • To find e-books, enter your keywords into the Library Catalogue and click on E-book under Item types.

Remember, you still have access to high quality online databases

  • Use Discover for finding journal articles and newspaper reports.
  • For all your other online resources, check the Database information pages on your subject guide.

More ways to contact us

We are still here to help you study whether you are at College or working from home

  • We still offer 1-2-1 support, in person, via Teams, or by email.
  • You can also use our Chat function available on Library Online if you need a quick answer

If you need to study on campus, there will be some study spaces in the library, but these will be for single silent study only.

You will find help and support at the Library Information Desk. You can contact Lakshmi Banner, your librarian, via email, Teams, or in person (Tuesday & Thursday). For details on how to contact the library, click here.
