Electronic Resources: Getting Started

What are electronic resources?

Bradford College Library provides access to a wide range of high-quality online resources, including databases, e-journals, and e-books. These resources are carefully selected and paid for by the Library to support your studies with reliable and authoritative information.

To use these resources, simply log in with your College username and password. This ensures you are recognised as an authorised user. Most resources are available both on and off campus, so you can study wherever suits you best.

Which electronic resource should I use?

You can select your subject area from the Subject  drop down list on the A to Z Database List. Here you will find which databases are most suitable to search for information in your specific subject area.

If you are looking for books and journal articles for your assignment then a DISCOVER Search, our online single search tool, is a great place for you to start.

A DISCOVER search is a quick and easy way to find the College Library's resources, print and electronic, including the Library Catalogue, and find full text information. You can search for books, e-books, and journal articles.

A DISCOVER Search is a bit like an internet search engine; except that the results are only for our resources and therefore suitable for your college course. If you are familiar with using Google then it should seem fairly familiar. Off campus you will be asked to enter your College username and password.

Can I access electronic resources on and off campus?

It is important that students and staff access the electronic resources from the links on the A to Z Database List.

This will provide the correct URL for each electronic resource and instructions on how to access that particular electronic resource off campus.

Some electronic resources subscribed to by Bradford College Library will not require a username and password to access them when on campus, but you must be using a pc that you have logged in to and that is networked.

The majority of our electronic resources can be accessed off campus using your College username and password.

This is the same username and password that you use to access your college email, Moodle and the staff and student intranets.

Instructions for accessing each electronic resource are available on the A to Z Database List.
