More shelving: Over the summer we will be increasing our shelving which means more books. However, we will also be making our shelving taller, which means more study space. It's a win-win!
New Reading Area: We are creating a new reading area which will bring together all our Reading Collection books and our Graded Readers into one area with comfy sofas and tables - so you can sit down, grab a book, and have a good read.
Request and Receive: The Library “Request and Receive” service has made a real difference to students who struggle to study online. The last-minute lockdown introduced in January meant we had to quickly find alternative ways of offering access to physical resources, to ensure that no student should be disadvantaged. The Shielded Users service was expanded to all students, in a package including e-book support and training.
New Online resources: We switched more of our physical titles to online, including Early Years Educator, Wallpaper, ARTnews, Selvedge, Aperture, Black Beauty and Hair, and Ceramics. This means we now provide virtual access to the physical formats which keeps the look and feel; an important element for the design and art titles.
New online services: Online Lbrary Online reading groups with ESOL students have been a huge success. Students have been reading our new selection of Graded Readers which are available online in a 'flippy' format. Read more in the T&A article here
United Values Library Online page: Our United Values pages have been updated with new guides added all the time. These guides have been promoted to Student Services and the Students Union for inclusion in their promotions. We were able to use our United Values guides to support the College’s monthly themes of Prevent, Human Rights, Wellbeing and Climate Change.
New e-books for Employability: Purchase of 20 Kogan Page e-book titles in perpetuity on essential career planning and employability skills. Promoted to Bradford College Careers service and links on Library Catalogue, Library Online and College website.
New ways to contact us: for the first time the Library introduced an online Chat function to the Library Online pages which has been well used, particularly in lockdown but even after the college opened up again. Chat is available during library opening hours and is an easy way to get an immediate answer to a query.
