New Accountancy Books

Books and E-Books

Textbooks are a useful place to start for background reading about Accounting topics.  Buy or borrow at least one book from your reading list, and use the other books to read more on your subject.  Many of our textbooks are also available online - you can find these on the Library Catalogue.  We also have copies of the AAT Professional Diploma tutorial books.

Use the library catalogue to check what we have in stock, whether it is available or on loan, or available as an e-Book,  and to reserve and renew items.

Where are the books for Accounting?

Books relating to Accounting are in the right hand area of the library.  You will also find Business, Management and Marketing in the same section.

Economics, Social Policy and Politics are in the main left hand area.  There are also Business Journals in the journals area, and Study Skills books for help with academic writing, reading and note-taking, and PDP.  You can use the library catalogues to find the exact location of your books.

Some books are shelved in Hockney Library Store. If you see that your books are at this location, find a member of library staff who will collect the book for you.  This is because we are unable to shelve all the library books upstairs in the main library.

Most books can be taken out for 2 weeks - and you can take out up to 20 books at any one time.  There are Self-Issue machines in the Library where you can borrow and return your books.  Reference books cannot be taken out of the Library.  These are shelved with the lending books, so look out for the Reference sticker on the spine.

I can't find my book

If we don't have the book you need on the shelf, check the library catalogue.  If it is out, you can usually reserve it so that when it is returned, it is kept for you to collect.  Please note that we will let you know when your book has been put aside for you by emailing your college email account. You may find that the book is in the Hockney Stack.  If this is the case, just ask a member of library staff and we will collect it for you. If we don't have the book or journal article at all, we may be able to request it for you from another library.  Click on the tab for Inter-Library loans to get more information.

Borrowing and Auto-Renewals

Borrowing and auto-renewals

You can borrow most items for 2 weeks.

  • 2 week loan items will automatically renew for up to 25 times - unless another user requests an item, in which case you will be given 5 day notice to return that item.
  • Reference items and journals can be used only in the library

Email reminders about your library use are sent to your College email account. To access your College email account go to the Student Portal.  You will receive an email confirmation when you borrow an item, and you will receive an email confirmation when an item is due for return.  PLEASE NOTE: if an item cannot be automatically renewed you will receive an email reminder telling you the item and date it must be returned by.  If you do not return an item you will receive email reminders on the due date, 7 days after due date, 14 days after due date, and 28 days after due date.

If you do not wish to regularly check your College email account it is vital that you set up a forwarding rule from your College email account, so that any emails received will be sent to an email address of your choice.  To find out how to do this, click here

You can check the items that you have on loan on the 'My Account' tab at the top of the Library Catalogue.

E-Books

We have a growing number of electronic books available. E-books can be accessed 24/7 from outside College.

Find the book you need by using the Library Catalogue. You may also find links to e-books on your Moodle course pages and in the reading lists.

Just enter your usual College IT username and password, the same as the one you that you use for Moodle.

You can print from e-books but only a limited amount of pages.  This is to comply with copyright law.

Please get in touch if you have any difficulties in using e-books.
