Electronic Resources: How to access electronic resources

Logging in to Electronic Resources

Bradford College Library subscribes to a large number of online or electronic resources: databases, electronic journals and e-books.

Using these electronic resources requires logging in with your College username and password, you are then recognised as a valid user.  The majority of these resources can also be accessed off campus.

Accessing Resources from Library Online and Databases A to Z

The first time you click on a link to an electronic resource from Library Online, Databases A to Z, Library Catalogue or Moodle you may be prompted to log in. If a Sign In page appears, use your College username and password (the same as you would use to sign in to your college email).

1. Enter your College email address.  For students this is your college ID number followed by @bradfordcollege.ac.uk.  Click Next.

2. You will see a screen like this for a few seconds.

3. You will be directed to the Bradford College Sign in page. Your username should have already been filled in with your college email address. Your password is the same as you would use to access your college email.

Instructions for accessing each electronic resource are available on the Databases A to Z

Accessing a resource directly

It is generally easier to follow a link from Library OnlineDatabases A to Z or the Library Catalogue. Instructions for accessing each electronic resource are available on the Databases A to Z

If you access resources via a search engine rather than our links you can still log in, providing we have a subscription to that resource.

From the option to log in or sign on on the resource page  look out for any one of these links (they all mean the same thing):

  • Institutional login

  • Remote Users: login via  your home institution/organization

  • Shibboleth login

  • UK Access Management Federation

  • UK Federation

You should then be asked what institution you are from, browse or search for Bradford College.  You will then be prompted for your College username and password.

Library PIN

From the Library Catalogue you can check your library record, renew books or request books that are out to someone else.  You will need to enter your College ID number and your PIN.  Your PIN is a 4 digit number which is set to your year of birth.

Other passwords

Some electronic resources have their own username and password.  These usernames and passwords can be obtained from the Library Information Desk in the David Hockney Building.  As use of these usernames and passwords is restricted to the staff and students of Bradford College, you will be asked to show your Bradford College student or staff ID card as proof of identity.

Free and open access resources

Free available resources on the internet:

There is a  large amount of material freely available or free to use on the internet. We have identified a number of resources which are free to use and which we consider to be trusted sources. For example these resources might be government, museum  or university websites.

Open Access resources:

Open Access (OA) publishing ensures that the outputs of publicly funded research is made freely available, in a digital format, to anyone without restriction.  For example the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

You do not need to log in to these resources using your college username and password.
